Portable was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Okikiola in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He attended both primary and secondary schools in Abeokuta. However, instead of pursuing a university education, Portable chose to attend a vocational training center where he learned various skills.

From a young age, Portable had a deep passion for music. He was particularly influenced by American rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Dr. Dre. Inspired by these artists, he began writing his own rap songs. However, with the rise of local Nigerian rappers like Qdot, Olamide, Dagrin, Danny Young, and Lord of Ajasa, Portable decided to switch to rapping in his native Yoruba language.

In pursuit of his musical dreams, Portable relocated from his hometown to Lagos, the epicenter of Nigeria’s music industry. Upon arriving in Lagos, he faced numerous challenges, including finding a producer to work with. To support himself and fund his music career, Portable took on various artisan jobs. Despite these challenges, he remained steadfast in his commitment to music, consistently creating and releasing singles, though many of them did not achieve significant commercial success at the time.

Portable’s big break came unexpectedly when his song “Zazoo Zeh” started trending on TikTok. The track caught the attention of Olamide, a prominent Nigerian rapper and the boss of YBNL Records. Moved by Portable’s talent, Olamide collaborated with him and popular dancer Poco Lee to release a remix of “Zazoo Zeh.” The song became an instant hit, propelling Portable into the limelight and earning him widespread recognition.

Following the success of “Zazoo Zeh,” Portable’s popularity soared. He became a sought-after artist, performing at high-profile events and collaborating with other notable Nigerian musicians. His energetic performances and unique style endeared him to a broad audience, solidifying his place in the Nigerian music industry.

Portable’s rise to fame has not been without controversies. Shortly after his breakthrough, he publicly accused Poco Lee of financial impropriety, claiming that Poco Lee had shortchanged him after a performance where Wizkid had sprayed him with money. This accusation led to a fallout with his promoter, Kogbagidi, who subsequently walked Portable out of his record label. Portable later apologized for his actions, and with the intervention of other celebrities, the issues were resolved.
