Khaligraph Jones has released the fifth installment of his acclaimed cypher series, “Khali Cartel 5,” on March 6, 2025. This nearly 12-minute track brings together a diverse lineup of East African rap talents, including Jakk Quill, Ruyonga, Fresh like Uhh, Dyana Cods, Mex Cortez, and the legendary Abbas Kubaff.
The “Khali Cartel” series, initiated six years ago, has been instrumental in spotlighting emerging rap talents. The fifth installment expands its reach by featuring artists from across East Africa, not just Kenya. Khaligraph Jones highlighted this regional representation, stating on social media, “The whole of East Africa has been represented.”
The cypher has received mixed reactions from fans. While many praise the dynamic composition and the seamless blend of veteran and emerging artists, some critics feel it doesn’t offer much innovation compared to previous installments. In response to the criticism, Khaligraph Jones humorously suggested that the next cypher might feature verses in the Gusii language, engaging with celebrity chef Dennis Ombachi to start writing lyrics.
