Oxlade, a Nigerian celebrity, has published his debut album in 2024, titled “OFA (Oxlade From Africa)”.

On 2024’s OFA (Oxlade From Africa), Afro-fusion singer-songwriter Oxlade masterfully situates himself in geographic, temporal, and sonic terms. The album represents a seamless blend of the vintage, classical sounds of African music and the contemporary energy of Afrobeats. As Oxlade shares with Apple Music, “OFA is a combination of vintage, classical African music and modern-day Afrobeats. It’s a body of work that travels through time and rhythm. You’re going to be hearing some elements that we grew up listening to and the current sounds of our time.” With collaborations featuring industry legends such as Bobi Wine, Fally Ipupa, Flavour, Wande Coal, and Sarkodie, Oxlade draws from the pioneering spirit of these musical icons, while infusing his own unique willfulness. “I felt like it was time for me to make my own impact,” he says, adding, “I’m continuing the legacy the legends that came before me started.”
The conceptual framework of OFA comes together with potent clarity through Oxlade’s evocative lyrics and mesmerizing falsetto, as he bridges eras and cultures. “‘Offa’ means arrow in Yoruba,” Oxlade reveals. “Like the great Fela used to say, music is the weapon to heal humanity from itself. “This song embodies my belief that the platform and fame God has given me should be used for more than just music and entertainment. That’s why I spoke up during the #EndSARS era. Having Bobi Wine on this track evokes a sense of nostalgia, and the interlude’s title, ‘D PTSD,’ represents ‘democratic PTSD.’ It’s a call to the African youth, reminding us that the power is still in our hands and that we must not forget what we’re fighting for—good governance.”
“OLAITAN (OLAOLUWA)”
“‘Olaitan’ is my real name, and this track is about my personal journey. In Africa, names often carry deep meanings. ‘Olaitan’ signifies unending favor, unending wealth, and God’s unending grace. This song reflects the essence of who I am.”
“BLESSED” (with Popcaan)
“I truly believe this album could even be considered a gospel album due to its positivity and prophetic messages. Popcaan was drawn to this song because, in our generation, people don’t expect us to make such uplifting music. “This song stems from personal experiences and the heartbreak we often endure in life. The title ‘INTOXYCATED’ comes from a place of emotional anger and frustration about love. “‘OVAMI’ exists because of Flavour’s contribution. I reached a point where I needed someone with true authenticity in Afrobeat to help take the song to the next level. Flavour brought that final touch, like the secret ingredient to make the dish complete.”
