2001 is Dr. Dre’s second studio album. Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records released it on November 16, 1999, as a follow-up to The Chronic, his breakthrough album from 1992.

Dr. Dre and Mel-Man, together with Lord Finesse, produced the album, which includes guest appearances from Hittman, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit, Eminem, and Nate Dogg.

2001 builds on Dre’s breakthrough G-funk sound and explores gangsta rap topics such as violence, crime, promiscuity, sex, drug usage, and street gangs. The album opened at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 516,000 copies in its first week.

The album sold 7,800,000 copies in the United States as of August 2015, with three chart-topping singles and a 6× Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. 2001 garnered mostly excellent reviews from critics, with many praising the production and music, however some considered the lyrics offensive.

However, this new body of work includes 23 good tunes.
